This year's ChalkFest has had an enormous turnout. If you haven't been yet, today is the last day until October of next year. Make sure you stop by- museum entry is free this weekend only!
The sun is shining, the bad weather is staying away, and the chalk has painted a rainbow through Marietta. It is absolutely lovely outside. Saturday, 8/31, the professional artists began work on their large chalk works. Each of the 20 artists is doing something completely unique and some even partial to our state of Georgia- we have Scarlett O'Hara in Rhett Butler's arms, Civil War images and a portrait of Ray Charles, among others. These professional artists are working extra hard in the sun to showcase their amazing work to visitors from all over the metro Atlanta area.
We also had a juried competition on Saturday. Local folk artists of all ages competed for cash prizes and gift cards. There were so many great entries that the judge had a hard time deciding a winner. There were over 70 3'x3' entries and only 3 winners per division. Because this event was so popular, there will be even more entries permitted and space made next year.

Here is our juried competition 1st place winner from the adult division with her awesome chalk drawing!
And this is a photo of our 1st place winner from the youth division with her prize winning drawing, too.

Edit Update: Unfortunately, the rain caught up to ChalkFest and most chalk pictures were wiped away completely. We will be accepting submissions and posting photos of artwork shortly before the rain began. In the words of one brave chalk artist, "It is what it is".
